He married Edyth Stacy Marie Hall October 23, 1983. Edyth was born May 17, 1959. Edyth is the daughter of Willard Leslie Hall Sr. and Barbara Anne Heflin. At 31 years of age Edyth became the mother of Jonathan Haynie Hinton June 29, 1990. At 31 years of age Edyth became the mother of Elizabeth Leslie Ann Hinton August 24, 1990.

At 30 years of age James became the father of Jonathan Haynie Hinton June 29, 1990. At 30 years of age James became the father of Elizabeth Leslie Ann Hinton August 24, 1990.

James Raymond Hinton and Edyth Stacy Marie Hall had the following children:
